Dear History Reclaimed,
Professor Robert Tombs observes in his denunciation of Home Office reticence (November 18) that “civil servants continue to be exposed to historical ‘training’ that appears to be inaccurate and distorted, of unknown origin, and unavailable for public scrutiny.” https://historyreclaimed.co. uk/the-home-office-and- distortions-of-history/ ; https://historyreclaimed.co. uk/history-at-the-home-office/
I daresay the Professor’s concern is not without foundation – not least because no one who lives in this country and was not born yesterday is any longer in a position to be ignorant of the contagion that is ‘wokery’ – but surely that concern is misplaced when it is exuded in respect of His Majesty’s civil servants? Are not all of them respectable graduates from some of the leading universities in Great Britain and around the world? Have not their years as undergraduates already endowed them with ample ability to distinguish truth from falsehood? Is there no weapon against sophistry that can be found between their ears? And if the answer to even one of these questions should be in anything but the affirmative, have they got any business being ‘civil servants’?
Yours sincerely,
Bilal Haider Junejo, LLB LLM (Lond) CertHE (Oxon) AdvDip (Cantab).
