The Gravest Crime: Ghana and Slavery

The state of Ghana took the lead in March 2026 in the passing of a United Nations’ resolution calling for reparations from western nations for the Atlantic Slave Trade. Ghana has not acknowledged the role of Africans in facilitating that trade, however. Nor has it faced up to the long history of slave trading and slave holding by African tribes within its own borders, and to British attempts to end both practices.
